Metaphors, bureaucracy, and useless sections

Story Updates

Reached that “click” moment where I figured out what the chapter is (probably) going to look like. And it’s that type of revelation that only comes from smashing your head against the wall until you realize there’s a locked doorway right next to you.

… wait, that metaphor makes no sense.

It’s basically the whole idea of most creative work is destructive. Except I hate how this is usually portrayed because it’s usually in a “well, you have to lose all this work to make it better” kind of way, which is only true as a technicality. If you only care about word count, this part of the process is probably your least favorite one. But the thing is, I think it’s necessary. I would not have this clear of an idea of what I want to do if I didn’t work on the parts that I cut. While the actual words aren’t going to be in the final product, their effect will be.

So for me, this is my favorite part. Let me see if I can come up with a better metaphor…

It’s like feeling your way around a room in pitch darkness, only to finally stumble upon the light switch. You wouldn’t have found it if you didn’t inch your way across the room, hitting your foot on inconveniently placed corners and such. And it’d be really weird if you went back and walked across the room the same way every time now that the light’s on, but now the light’s on. So the initial trip wasn’t a waste.

Oh, and I also ironed out how I’m going to track my writing progress. Like, for personal growth stuff and things.

And also Wordly is only free for 20 entries so don’t use it. Unless you aren’t cheap like I am.

IRL

First week of school! Yay! I’m really happy with the classes I’ve landed on, especially with the whole headache of trying to trade out a class before school started.

Apparently, you aren’t allowed to make changes to your schedule for the week before school starts. Which is stupid. And when I was spamming anyone I could think of who might be able to help me with emails, I didn’t receive an answer until after we1Me and my mom. had just solved the whole Gordian knot. And every answer I received was vastly different from a) each other and b) the actual solution we used.

So this has not helped with my perception of SAC’s bureaucracy in general.

I’m also going to my cousin’s wedding reception on Sunday. I’m kinda looking forward to that. Because this is the problem side of my family, and while I’ve realized that the group this cousin falls in is alright and I need to apologize to them specifically for including them in a call-out post I made about people excluding family members, the people who I still stand behind my calling them out are also going to be there. So fun!

Is that all?

Yeah, pretty sure. I’m wondering if I should remove this section of the Weekly Updates unless they’re necessary.

That or I can use them for questions for readers.

What do you guys think?
